Ida B. Wells (1862-1931)
was born enslaved in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Freed as an infant through the Emancipation Proclamation,
Wells would live to become an investigative reporter,
author of Southern Horrors: Lynch Law in all its
Phases and The Red Record, sociologist, educator,
