Lucile Hodge was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, a historically Black denomination
with a strong tradition of lay leadership.
The A.M.E. Church has a long-standing practice of recognizing and honoring lay ministers through special events such
as Lay Organization Day or Annual Lay Day, which celebrate the
